PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Two teens were arrested Thursday after they allegedly ran from police, one of them in possession of a handgun.

The Portland Police Bureau said an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the area of 122nd Avenue and East Burnside.

The driver of the car, 18-year-old McKeever Waston Thompson, failed to stop and continued onto 127th Avenue, where he and his 15-year-old passenger ran from the car, according to police.

Officers said the 15-year-old was in possession of a handgun as he ran into a nearby apartment.

Residents inside the apartment ran out of the building and told police that a young man they did not know was inside the building with a gun and there were still others inside their apartments.

PPB said the Special Emergency Reaction Team, SERT, and the Crisis Negotiation Team, CNT, were called to the scene, but quickly canceled after the 15-year-old surrendered himself.

Officers checked the apartment and found the handgun and some of the 15-year-old’s clothing that he had discarded.

The 15-year-old faces several charges including burglary, escape and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Thompson is charged with attempted to elude by vehicle and by foot.
