LONGVIEW, WA (KPTV) -

Members of a local community theater said they are devastated after someone stole costumes and tools valued at thousands of dollars.

A trove of vintage women's clothing was just some of what theater volunteers with Stageworks Northwest realized was missing Sunday morning.

The group has been Longview’s community theater for more than ten years, and the entirely volunteer-run theater has a long history of both supporting and getting support from the community.

“We struggle every month to make sure we have money to cover everything to keep the lights on,” Stageworks Northwest President Rick Little said. “We have a lot of support but we feel in this instance that we were very violated.”

More than $10,000 worth of goods were gone. Power tools and sound equipment were the most expensive items stolen, but it's the vintage costumes that were stolen that the theater says hurts the most.

“The hardest to replace would be all the vintage dresses, the vintage costume jewelry that you can't get a lot of it that we've been collecting for years,” Little said. “Those special teams those are things that may not mean a lot to some people but they mean a lot to our theater.”

Some of the items stolen had no cash value, including a prop gnome and posters from past shows. And because there were no signs of forced entry, the group’s insurance won't cover the cost of the losses.

Though Stageworks has received lots of support and set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to replace what was stolen, it will take lots of time and money to build their collection back up.

“I'm personally dismayed that were dealing with this,” Little said. “It’s such a beautiful part of our community to have this and to have people come in and take away, it's really hurtful.”

Stageworks Northwest will premiere their next production, "The Merchant of Menace," in July.
