ESTACADA, OR (KPTV) -

The Rose Festival is generally all about Portland. But this year, several smaller cities across Oregon will be featured in the festival.

In Estacada the community is making big plans for the "La Petite Parade" within the Grand Floral Parade.

“I think people forget Estacada is out here. So it would be nice to get people from Portland or the Coast to know Estacada exists. It's got a cool history and it's got wonderful things to offer people,” said Brenda Scott, concept designer for the community float.

It’s a mini float, with a major message.

“We think it's a great opportunity for Estacada to present itself to Portland and all the people that watch the Grand Floral Parade," said Mayor of Estacada, Brent Dodrill.

For the last several weeks, a group of about 30 volunteers in Estacada has been working round the clock to get their float ready for big parade.

“We're always talking about it, thinking about it, looking up stuff online," Scott told FOX 12.

This is the first year Estacada will have a community float in the parade, and it will be one of ten featured in the “La Petite Parade.”

Now the pressure is on to make sure every detail is picture perfect.

“It's really been interesting to see our idea go from our head, to paper then to a three dimensional thing,” said Kerrie Hubbard, who helped come up with the float design concept.

Hubbard said the float will look like a snapshot out of Estacada’s scenic countryside.

“We're accenting the things you can do out here in nature, hiking and things on the river. We'll have fish jumping out of the river," Hubbard told FOX 12.

From the one-of-a-kind flowers and painted mushrooms, to the hand placed moss covering the float, volunteers said every detail is possible because of a generous grant.

“The Ford Family Foundation has been a huge asset to the community. They've invested a lot, not just financially, but training wise, showing people how to get things done and work together," said Mayor Dodrill.

With a big vision, and a big budget too - one of the volunteers tells us it's about $10,000, thanks to matched fundraising efforts - the small town of Estacada is going big for the mini float.

“Hopefully it will bring more people out to see how cool it is out here,” said Hubbard.

You can catch a glimpse of the finished Estacada float at the Grand Floral Parade on Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m.

If you can't make it out there in person, you can watch it live, on FOX 12.
