CROOK COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

An 80-year-old driver was taken to the hospital after crashing her car three miles southeast of Prineville, according to the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to a crash on Southeast Juniper Canyon Road near Southeast Morningside Road at approximately 5:07 P.M. When crews arrived, they found a 2003 Subaru Forester upside down and the driver trapped inside.

The driver, Janet Henderson, 80, was extricated from her car and taken to a local hospital.

According to deputies, Henderson was driving north on Southeast Juniper Canyon Road with her two dogs in the car. Witnesses told deputies that it appeared Henderson was distracted by her dogs when she crashed.

Henderson traveled approximately 260 feet on the gravel shoulder of the roadway before overcorrecting and traveling into the southbound lane.

After overcorrecting a second time, and went across the northbound lane and collided with an embankment, causing the car to flip and land in a ditch.

Oregon State Police also responded and assisted in the investigation.
