Two men arrested after chase ends in Hillsboro neighborhood

Posted: Updated:

Two men are behind bars after leading police on a chase that started in Aloha and ended in Hillsboro when they crashed through a fence in a quiet neighborhood Saturday night.

Fox 12 spoke with neighbors who saw one of the armed suspects run through their yards from police.

"I opened up the front door and police were out there talking to a neighbor," said resident Ray Weiss. "All the sirens were going. You could hear them everywhere."

Weiss didn't know it, but he was witnessing a police chase in progress, and it eventually led officers and their K-9s to his backyard.

"They stormed through our gate, kicked down this fence and went in,” said Weiss. "Before I knew it, they had him. He was coughing up a storm, pepper spray I'm guessing. They had him in handcuffs."

Police say the man in handcuffs was involved in a shooting earlier in the evening that left a man wounded in an Aloha shopping center parking lot. The suspect and an accomplice then led officers on a chase to a Hillsboro neighborhood before crashing into a fence and running off.

"I heard a light tire screech then a loud boom," said witness Marvin Draper, who lives nearby and saw the commotion. "I saw someone running this way, then the cops came."

Draper said the suspect picked the wrong area of town to mess with. With a few officers living in the neighborhood, he said there is zero tolerance for crime.

"Drama, not for this neighborhood," he said. "Everybody watches everybody’s back. We were just looking out for each other."

And police didn't call it a night when the suspect was captured.

"At one o'clock in the morning they came back and repaired our fence for us," said Weiss.

Both suspects were booked into the Washington County Jail. The arrests were a joint effort by Hillsboro Police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
