Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has appointed a marijuana policy advisor.

The appointment of Jeff Rhoades to the position of senior policy advisor for marijuana policy in the governor's office was announced Tuesday.

Rhoades has served as deputy district attorney with the Multnomah County district attorney's office since 2011.

He also worked as counsel to the Oregon Legislature's House and Senate judiciary committees during the 2015 session.

Rhoades earned a bachelor's degree in economics at Trinity College and his law degree at Lewis & Clark Law School.

"Jeff will work on marijuana-related policy issues, helping create responsive regulations in what is still a new industry," Brown said in a statement released Tuesday. "As we continue implementation of Measure 91, Jeff will be mindful of my focus on public safety, user awareness, and educating youth as this burgeoning business sector takes root."
