Teen riding bike to school hit by car, seriously injured in Forest Grove

FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

A 16-year-old girl riding her bicycle to school was hit by a car and seriously injured Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to Highway 47 near Poplar Street at around 9 a.m.

Investigators said the girl was riding south near the northbound shoulder against northbound traffic when she was hit.

Police said the teen was riding on the side of the highway opposite the designated bike path.

She was flown to the hospital with injuries described as serious.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

Highway 47 had re-opened by Tuesday afternoon., though traffic continued to be slow through the area.

Oregon State Police is assisting the Forest Grove Police Department in the investigation.
