Armed man shot, killed by police inside High Desert Museum in Bend

DESCHUTES COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A man was fatally shot by police at the High Desert Museum in Bend, according to Oregon State Police.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, OSP and the Bend Police Department responded to the High Desert Museum around 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday on the report of an assault.

OSP said 911 dispatch learned a man was holding a woman by the throat and threatening to kill her. The man was armed with a knife.

Staff at the High Desert Museum helped visitors out of the area before police arrived.

An OSP Trooper arrived on scene and found the man inside the museum. 

According to OSP, during the encounter with the man the Trooper fired his weapon, striking the suspect.

The man died from his injuries at the scene. The woman received non-life threatening injuries and is cooperating with investigators.

The OSP Trooper was not injured.

The Tri County Major Incident Team, made up of all law enforcement agencies in Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties, will be investigating the shooting.
