PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Public Schools received radon test results on Wednesday that showed elevated levels in some buildings.

According to a memorandum from PPS, they hired PBS Environmental in March to do district-wide radon testing based on requirements by new legislation mandating testing in every school by January 2021.

About 800 rooms in the 26 PPS buildings were tested.

Test results showed 121 rooms exceeded the "initial action level" and tests results showed nine rooms in six schools (Meek, Beaumont, Whitman, Roseway Height, Lent and Marysville) exceeded the "higher action level", according to PPS.

A short-term follow up test will take place in those six schools on Monday.

PPS last tested for radon in 2001.
