MT. ST. HELENS, WA (KPTV) -

An injured climber was rescued on Mount St. Helens Thursday, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Crews received a call from the climber at approximately 12:45 p.m. to report that he slid 100 yards down the mountain, and had broken his leg or ankle.

Andrew Maris, 19, from Arizona had been climbing the mountain with his three brothers and started going back before the other three.

Maris said he was sliding on the snow field when he hit a large rock and fractured his ankle.

According to deputies Maris used his cell phone to call 911 and the Volcano Rescue Team found him approximately 200 yards above timberline in a snow field.

Maris was then evaluated, brought back down the trail and taken to a local hospital according to deputies.
