BEND, OR (KPTV) -

Officers from the Bend Police Department used Naloxone Hydrochloride to save a man who was suffering from an overdose.

Recently, Bend Fire and Rescue trained members of the Bend Police Department in recognizing signs and symptoms of people overdosing, and usage of Naloxone Hydrochloride in order to increase survivability.

Police said the training is in response to an upward trend in the City of Bend with community members suffering from overdoses.

According to the Bend Police Department, officers used the drug for the first time early Thursday morning.

Officers with the Bend Police Department responded around 1:10 a.m. to the report of a man suffering from a narcotic analgesic overdose.

Officers arrived within seven minutes of the call, and used Naloxone Hydrochloride on the man with positive results according to Bend Police.
