Passport, vows stolen from groom-to-be days before wedding

Posted: Updated:

A Portland man was two days away from flying to his destination wedding when his home was ransacked and his passport stolen.

Zach Klonoski said he had just gotten his wedding haircut when he came home Friday evening to the robbery. He said much of his wedding attire, and his laptop containing his wedding vows and the reception music was also stolen.

If there was a worst time for a robbery, this could take the cake: Klonoski was supposed to travel Sunday to meet his finance in Mexico. Their wedding is Thursday.

“I’m in shock,” said Klonoski, who is a policy advisor for Portland Mayor Charlie Hales and the son of Oregon Chief Judge for the U.S. District Court Ann Aiken.

"I was stressed all day just thinking about all the stuff I had to do in terms of packing, and getting ready for the flight, and now I come home to this, and I’m on another planet now,” Klonoski said.

Portland Police said they don’t have any suspects, but the passport can be dropped off at its Central Precinct Office, no questions asked.

“I just want my passport,” Klonoski said. "I’ll get to my wedding and everything will be fine.”

Meanwhile, there’s hope the wedding will still happen — Klonoski is applying for an emergency passport.

He and other family members are  still hopeful the thieves will have a change of heart and turn the passport in.

Klonoski said his finance does’t have cellphone service at the resort, so he told her about the robbery and passport over Facebook.

“Probably not the best idea,” he said, adding that she’s now accepted the news.

“It’s a test of our relationship and our bond. We’re going to get through it and be stronger for it,” Klonoski said. “I just want to marry her next week -- that’s all I care about in the whole world."

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Portland Police.
