PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Grass fires set in the area of Northeast 138th and Marine Drive in Portland have been determined to be arson, according to firefighters.

Portland Fire & Rescue crews were called to the scene just before noon Monday.

Firefighters said they arrived to find multiple fires heading west. Incident commanders immediately called for more resources to contain and put out the fires.

High temperatures, dry grass and wind were contributing factors in the rapid spread of the fires.

Crews from Portland Fire & Rescue and the Gresham Fire Department used brush units in addition to fire engines for a more mobile attack, according to firefighters.

The fires were declared under control in about 40 minutes.

Investigators determined the fires were intentionally set. Anyone with information about the person or people responsible is asked to contact Arson Investigations Unit Detective Joe Luiz at 503-823-3408.
