PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Just as Portland Public Schools are trying to deal with dangerous levels of lead in the water at some facilities, Portland parks are facing similar issues.

Like the school district, the Parks and Rec department has several very old buildings on their properties, including at least one that has concerning levels of lead in the drinking water.

Testing at the Multnomah Arts Center in southwest Portland from three years ago showed elevated lead levels in the drinking water.

However, drinking fountains were finally replaced or improved with filters just last week, and parks officials said they only learned about the results on Friday afternoon.

Now all drinking water is cut off for use at the building.

Other buildings of concern include the Fulton Community Center and the Portland Children’s Museum, both of which are now going through a water flushing process every morning until further testing is done.

Some parents who use these parks facilities said it’s concerning but not totally surprising.

“I think it’s a good idea to test for lead to flush the system,” mother Becca Love said while visiting the Portland Children's Museum. “But you know, there’s a lot of old buildings here in Portland and I’m not surprised it’s coming up all over the place.”

Parks and Rec Director Mike Abbate was not doing interviews Monday, but in a press release, his staff said the reason for the delay acting on those 2013 test results is under review.
