PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

For the next seven days, the Portland Timbers and the Portland Thorns will team up with several groups to give back to the Portland-area community as part of Stand Together Week.

On Monday, the Stand Together Week kicked off with volunteers gearing up for the annual holiday bike drive.

Several volunteers, including some Portland Thorns players and even Timber Joey, were at the Community Cycling Center in northeast Portland polishing up and refreshing donated bikes.

After the bikes are polished, mechanics will fix up the bikes.

Come December, the hundreds of refurbished bikes will be available for children who come from low-income families.

A couple of Thorns players told FOX 12 about how nice it will be for the kids when they receive the bikes.

"I was the youngest in my family, so I got hand-me-downs, just like this, and my parents would clean things up for Christmas and then give them to me, which is really nice," said Mana Shim.

"Then you get a little responsibility on your own of having to take care of your bike and keep it maintenanced. That way you can go and hang out with your friends," said McKenzie Berryhill.

With Portland being a bike-friendly city, this particular charity has really grown over the years with people donating their bicycles.

Stand Together Week continues through Sunday with several events happening each day.
