PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Department has a new team member.

After six weeks of intensive training, K-9 Kelo is now certified in both Washington and Oregon.

The Springer Spaniel is able to detect cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

In a Facebook post, Sheriff Mark Nelson said Kelo will work full time with his handler Deputy Ness Aguilar.

“I’m thrilled to have Kelo on board.” Sheriff Nelson wrote in the post. “He works cheap, has a great attitude and greatly improves the looks of the whole agency.”

Nelson added that Kelo will replace the department's former K-9 Annie as she moves into retirement.
