SW Portland camera shop robbed at gunpoint, police searching for suspect

Posted: Updated:

Portland police are looking for a man who robbed a Portland camera shop at gunpoint last Thursday.

Police said the suspect used a semi-automatic pistol to hold up Camera Solutions in southwest Portland and ordered a store employee to the ground before he stole a Nikon camera and two lenses.

Employee Nate Pratt was working at the time of the robbery and said the man came into the store wearing a motorcycle helmet to conceal his face.

“He was screaming a lot and a little frantic, but very aggressive,” Pratt said Thursday. “You think of jewelry stores and banks and gas stations, not, a photo retailer.”

Pratt said the camera and lenses are worth about $4,000, and he wasted no time handing the items over.

“A camera is not worth taking a bullet for,” Pratt said.

Police said the suspect took off on a motorcycle with his new camera tucked between his legs. The man is described as white and between the age of 30 and 49. He has brown eyes and about 6 feet tall and 165 pounds.

If you have any information about the robbery, please call police.
