WEST LINN, OR (KPTV) -

A runaway car crashed through a 7-Eleven convenience store in West Linn Thursday night.

West Linn police said the owner of a 1990 Honda had parked at a Walmart lot across the street from the 7-Eleven at Cedaroak Drive and Willamette Drive around 10 p.m.

Witnesses said after the owner entered the store, the car began to roll backwards.

The car crossed Willamette Drive, jumped a curb near a Chevron Station, and then backed into the 7-Eleven, about 350 feet away.

Officers said witnesses ran across the street and into the Walmart to try and locate the owner.

The crash caused extensive damage to the side of the building.

West Linn Police said they are amazed that no one was hurt and that the runaway car did not collide with any other cars when it crossed Willamette Drive or hit a gas pump at the Chevron station.

Police suspect a parking break malfunction was the cause of the incident.
