Change in weather helps crews fight Akawana Fire

Posted: Updated:

A change in weather Friday is helping fire crews get a hold of the Akawana Fire.

Crews said lightening is suspected to be the cause of the fire on Sunday, and is burning about 13 miles north of Sisters.

The fire has burned an estimated 2,000 acres, and is 44 percent contained.

On Tuesday, 912 homes in the Three Rivers Grandview area were considered threatened and were on a level 2 evacuation notice.

Most families in the area were told to be ready to leave in a moment’s notice.

Thursday night, crews said approximately 600 homes are no longer considered threatened and are on a level 1 evacuation notice.

Crews said Friday that the fire is no longer actively spreading, and crews are now focusing on hot spots.
