Families camp out for Rose Festival's Grand Floral Parade

Posted: Updated:

The Grand Floral Parade is on Saturday and people are already staking out the perfect spot along the route to ensure a good view.

Northeast Weidler Street is prime real estate for parade goers.

Friday evening Fox 12 spotted several families pitching their tents to wait it out and guarantee a great view of the festivities.

“It’s the Rose Festival, it’s part of Portland! It’s the City of Roses!” said Tiffany Crumble.

Per tradition, Crumble is here with the whole family.

“I’ve got my nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and grandson,” Crumble told FOX 12.

After years of attending the parade, Crumble knew she had to show up early to reserve the perfect spot, and this year, she came prepared.

“We’ll do s’mores, that will keep [the kids] warm at night, and we’ve got all sorts of games we can play. Board games, card games, we make up games!” said Crumble.

While the parents look forward to seeing the kids have fun, the little ones look forward to their own favorite traditions.

“When the parade passes it’s real fun when they throw candy,” said a young parade goer.

And as far as those shower chances we’ve been hearing about?

“I don’t care, I don’t mind the rain, it won’t hurt me,” said another kid camped out along the route.

Spoken like true Oregonians, Sarah Graham and her kids are also camping out on the sidewalk, ready to make memories, no matter what the weather brings.

“The rain never stops us, just like the commercial. Unstoppable!” Graham exclaims.

Last year parade goers had sunshine and warm weather for the Grand Floral. This year could be a bit different, but that’s not getting in their way of having fun.

The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Floats will start at the Memorial Coliseum and will work their way to Downtown Portland.
