KELSO, WA (KPTV) -

A Kelso man wants justice for his injured mule after he says someone was electrocuting the animal in the middle of the night leaving it badly hurt.

Robert Turner is now offering a reward to hold the person, or persons, who did this responsible.

"He's got a big heart. He's just a little puppy dog at heart."

That's how Turner describes his beloved mule, Geronimo. Turner is extra protective over his mule these days after Geronimo was badly hurt a couple weeks ago when he and his wife woke up and found Geronimo in pain.

"He was sweating profusely and he was trembling and he was bleeding and short of breath. He couldn't catch his breath."

Turner said he found ATV tracks in his pasture, footprints and damaged gates.

"Both of these gates came off their hinges and down."

Turner suspects someone used livestock tools to electrocute Geronimo, and thinks the mule then got caught on the gates trying to get away and hurt himself.

Now, Turner and his wife are worried about their own safety.

"We were stunned. We could not imagine somebody doing this kind of a thing."

They don't understand how someone is capable of hurting Geronimo.

"Geronimo has a great personality. He's kind, he's a sweet boy. He's very loving. If people don't like me that's one thing, take it out on me, but don't take it out on an animal."

Turner is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest of Geronimo's abuser.
