Grand Floral Parade a beloved family tradition

Posted: Updated:

There was not a bare piece of sidewalk Saturday morning as thousands came out for the sights and sounds of Portland’s beloved Grand Floral Parade.

Dietrich Williams-Mott started going to the parade with her mother when she was a young girl and now she takes her grandkids every year.

“My mom has always taught us to keep a tradition and that’s what I like about it -- it is a tradition,” Williams Mott said. "It’s the kid in me that never allows me to miss it.”

Her granddaughter, 8-year-old Joicaunah Williams, knows exactly what she likes to see.

“I like the floats and the horses,” Joicaunah said.

Oregon City Resident Stephen Ford prefers the marching bands, and makes the event into a full-blown family affair.

“We came down about one o’clock  this morning,” Ford said. “We do all  three major parades in Portland and it’s just kind of a Portland tradition, and it’s a lot of fun."
