PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man who tried to take his own life is alive after he jumped off a bridge Saturday, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Crews were patrolling the security zone around the ships in port for the Rose Festival, when they heard a large splash near the Steele Bridge at around 5:25 p.m.

That is when deputies said they saw a man flailing in the water, so police threw him a lifeline.

The man was able to grab it, and deputies pulled him to safety in the boat.

Deputies said the man suffered minor injuries from the 100 foot fall.

The man thanked officers for saving his life, and was thankful he was going to get the help he needs.
