PRINEVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

Crook County deputies are investigating a motor home fire as arson Sunday, according to the Crook Co. Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies, along with Crook County Fire and Rescue, responded to a report of a motor home fire at around 10:47 a.m. in the area of Northwest Lamonata Road and Northwest Grimes Road.

Witnesses jogging in the area saw smoke coming from the motor home, and ran to the vehicle to make sure nobody was inside.

Deputies arrived and noticed the motor home suspiciously parked along an irrigation canal north of Grimes Road fully engulfed in flames.

Crook County Fire and Rescue crews arrived and began working to extinguish the flames, and prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby unoccupied home and agricultural fields.

An Oregon State trooper also responded to assist with securing the scene.

Fire crews quickly put out the fire, and deputies determined that nobody was living in the motor home.

After obtaining information from the motor home’s license plate, deputies determined that the motor home was registered to a Culver address.

According to the Culver County Sheriff’s Office, they are investigating the incident as arson, and found that the motor home was likely stolen during the night.

After further investigation and interviews led to the discovery that a nearby resident had seen the motor home being driven and parked on the irrigation road where it caught fire approximately 30-45 min before the initial 911 call.

The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.
