Gov. Kate Brown on Orlando shooting: 'This is absolutely intolerable'

Posted: Updated:

Oregon Governor Kate Brown spoke about the devastating shooting a gay nightclub in Orlando, reiterating a message of love toward the LGBTQ community.

“This absolutely intolerable,” said Governor Brown in an interview Monday morning. “Everyone in these United States of America should have the ability to live openly and with dignity.”

Gov. Brown shared a message of support for the families of the victims of the Orlando shooting, stating that they are “in our hearts” and that Oregon’s thoughts and prayers are going out to that community.

Brown called for signs of support from the American people, saying that a message of hate is unacceptable.

“We all should be speaking up. We all should be working to build a culture of tolerance and love,” she said.

Brown added that extra security forces will be provided at Portland Pride events during the next week if requested by local authorities.

“We want people to know that folks are not alone, that in Oregon you have the right to be who you are, to love who you love and I encourage folks to go on about their lives,” said Brown.

Early Sunday morning, 49 people were killed by a shooter inside the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. This is the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history.
