A man sent a chilling text message to a friend saying he had tied up his wife and child and was threatening to harm himself.

The person who received the text called 911. Police and a SWAT team responded.

It turns out, the man was just trying to get his friend to pay attention to him.

The situation began at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Police learned of a text message that said a man had barricaded himself and his family in their Vancouver home.

The person reporting the text message did not have an address where the supposed situation was unfolding.

Vancouver officers were able to obtain a location for the man near Northeast 86th Avenue and Burton Road. A SWAT team was called to the scene, due to the belief that the man was holding his family hostage. Officers also had reason to believe he may have been suicidal and suffering a mental health crisis.

Investigators were able to verify the wife and child were at another location and they were not in any danger.

Officers made contact with the man and learned he was not a threat to himself or his family. Instead, police said he admitted sending the text message because his friend was ignoring him and he wanted to get a response.

Police determined no crime was committed and nobody was arrested.
