WWII vets celebrate Flag Day, 75th anniversary of Oregon Air National Guard

Posted: Updated:

June 14 is Flag Day, and it is also the 75th anniversary of the Oregon Air National Guard.

On Tuesday morning, a ceremony was held at the Portland Air National Guard base where the flag was raised and then lowered to half staff for the victims of the Orlando shooting.

Along with the celebration, some World War II veterans attended to symbolize the various campaigns they fought in the war.

FOX 12 asked those currently serving what it meant to see the World War II vets there on Tuesday.

"I've met World War II vets and they just bring so much life and vigor and hope to us who are still serving, and their stories are just wonderful."

Oregon's first military deployment was in 1948, and since then, the Oregon National Guard said the state has served a proud heritage of active military service.
