GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A Gresham man standing on the sidewalk was hit by an SUV. Police are now hoping to track down anyone who witnessed the collision.

Gregory Lamor Morris Sr., 36, remained in the hospital Wednesday evening with serious injuries.

Police said he was hit by a 2001 Dodge Durango at East Burnside Street and Southeast 172nd Avenue at 6:10 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the SUV, Pedro Guzman-Ortega, 25, of Portland, remained at the scene and has cooperated with investigators. Police said he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but excessive speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Police described his SUV as careening out of control before hitting Morris.

Guzman-Ortega is not currently facing charges.

Police are asking for the public's help identifying witnesses to the collision.

Specifically, investigators believe people in a light-colored SUV were "key witnesses" to this crash. Police said the vehicle is a mid-2000s Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe.

A photo of the SUV was released Wednesday.

Anybody who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Gresham Police Department tip line at 503-618-2719.
