Portland's honesty put to the test with social experiment

Posted: Updated:

How honest is Portland? The city has been put to the test with a social experiment set up by the Honest Tea Company.

The Honest Tea kiosk was set up in Pioneer Square, where it clearly says the drinks are $1 and no sales people are there to watch.

A spokesman for Honest Tea says in the past, Portland has scored a 96 percent honest rating.

"I think the people if they have a dollar, they are willing to donate it or put it in the box, which is what we've seen today," said Makoto Lotking, who is with Honest Tea.

In past years, America overall has ranked 94 percent honest, with the most honest city being Atlanta with 100 percent.

This year's results will be released in August.
