PDX Carpet Replacement Project wins awards

Posted: Updated:

It's being called "the last hurrah" of the iconic PDX carpet. On Wednesday, those working on the PDX Carpet Replacement Project received a few awards for their hard work.

Over the course of the project, 100 percent of the 198-ton PDX terminal carpet was repurposed. That's the equivalent of eight soccer fields, and not one pound was sent to the landfill.

The project earned Starnet's 2016 Design Award, the Silver People's Choice Award and the Gold Environmental Achievement Award.

"It all happened really because of this city's embrace of the carpet because it helped us achieve it and what we're asking for is the same support of the new carpet," said Terry Green, who is with Rubenstein’s.

Locally, the PDX carpet project earned the Association of Oregon Recyclers Award they aptly named the Carpet Diem Award.
