CORVALLIS, OR (KPTV) -

A former Oregon State University football player was killed in a shooting in California.

Josh Williams was 24 years old.

Williams had been attending Kentucky State University. KSU reported that Williams died in a shooting Tuesday in Inglewood, California.

Williams was from Los Angeles.

"KSU Athletics is deeply saddened by the loss of one of its own," said William Head, director of athletics, in a statement. "Another senseless act of violence silences a potential voice of leadership."

According to a 2013 biography at osubeavers.com, Williams attended Oregon State in 2011 and played linebacker for the football team. Williams did not see game action for the Beavers in 2012, but played four games as a true freshman in 2011.

Williams transferred to Kentucky State and played for the football team there in 2014 and 2015.
