PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man was critically injured when an SUV hit his moped in southeast Portland.

Emergency crews responded to Southeast 45th Avenue and Belmont Street at 9:33 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said a 2010 Ford Escape began to turn left on 45th Avenue when the SUV hit a 1995 Honda CH80 moped.

The moped rider, identified Thursday as 28-year-old Ian Michael White, suffered traumatic injuries and was unconscious when crews arrived at the scene.

Police said White remained in critical condition at a Portland hospital Thursday.

The 45-year-old driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said he did not display any signs of impairment and there were no indications of distracted driving.

The investigation is continuing and once complete will be forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Officer Chris Johnson at 503-823-2213 or chris.johnson@portlandoregon.gov.
