CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

The K-9s of Clackamas County will now have another layer of protection when they are on duty protecting the community.

Kilo, Spencer, Vito, Nero, Marco and Grimm have all been outfitted with body armor.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office received the vests from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc.

The Massachusetts organization provides vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs around the country. Vested Interest in K9s was established in 2009 and has provided more than 1,800 protective vests in 49 states.

An anonymous sponsor's donation brought the vests to Clackamas County.

The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K-9 is $1,050. Each vest has a value between $1,795 and $2,234, with a five-year warranty and an average weight of 4 to 5 pounds.

The vests are embroidered with the words, "Proud to support one who serves and protects."
