Q Center hosts blood drive in honor of Orlando shooting victims

Posted: Updated:

The Q Center in north Portland partnered with Bloodworks Northwest Thursday for a blood drive in honor of the Orlando shooting victims.

Bloodworks Northwest says so far, they have sent 70 units of blood to Orlando and now need to replenish their local supply.

Fox 12 caught up with a young woman who was adamant about giving blood and hopes others will do the same.

"The shooting was a huge impact personally. I've always had a close eye on gay, LGBTQ rights," said Christine Berg, who donated blood Thursday. "I think Portland is trying to say that they care. Not only about area hospitals, but the entire Pacific Northwest."

If you want to give blood but couldn't make it Thursday, there will be another blood drive there next Wednesday.

Following Thursday's blood drive, a vigil was held at the Q Center for the victims.
