Friends and family of Shantina Turner, a 29-year-old woman who was stabbed to death inside Skinn Night Club on Wednesday, held a vigil in her honor.

They laid flowers and lit candles outside of the Northeast Portland night club Thursday.

According to police, Rinita Lowe, 23, stabbed Turner after an altercation inside the club around 11:30 p.m.

Police said Lowe then ran to the 7-11 next door where she was arrested.

Those who live in the area said this is the latest crime that has happened over the past five years.

“I went in there one day just to see what it’s like and I had to turn around and come out, I could not believe what was going on over there," one neighbor said.

Back in 2013, Jason Gleason who was a bouncer at Skinn claimed that a man, Anton Hill, was shot in the head and killed.

He also recalled another incident in 2011 when the club was called JD's. He said a man, Dion Moisan, was also shot and killed there.

Donna Taylor, a neighbor, said she has lived near the club for about three years and violence has grown.

“We need to close that place down, it’s not good for the neighborhood, it’s bad for kids, it’s just no good,” said Taylor.

Candice Edwards, a childhood friend of Turner, said no one really fears the bouncers inside, which is a big problem when it comes to security.

“The bouncers really don’t look like bouncers, they look kind of frail and kind of like maybe intimidated themselves, like they really don’t secure.”

Edwards said police were luckily able to make a quick arrest. The two officers who arrested Lowe were getting coffee at 7-11 when she ran in.

She also spoke about the last time she was with Turner, and said they had reminisced on their childhood.

“Man this just hit home right here for me, and my love is just going out to the family right now,” Edwards said.

Neighbors are hoping this is a wakeup call for the owners to shut the club down for good.
