RIDGEFIELD, WA (KPTV) -

Fox 12s Most Wanted is on the run after one hefty theft.

Someone stole an excavator from a jobsite in Ridgefield earlier this week, and the owner doesn’t think he’ll ever see it again.

It’s a big loss for a local business.

“You wouldn’t think something that size would be stolen that easily,” said Brad Thompson, owner of Thompson Bros Excavating.

Thompson says somewhere out there, someone has his 20,000 pound, $100,000 excavator.

“It was brand new, less than one hundred hours on it. We just purchased it,” Thompson told Fox 12.

Thompson says one of his employees showed up to the jobsite Thursday morning and noticed the locked machine was missing.

“I’ve heard of very large equipment being stolen. You would think it’s too obvious but who’s going to question when someone is on the side of the freeway loading something up?” Thompson explains.

Neighbors nearby told deputies they heard commotion around midnight, but assumed it was the workers.

“There are lots of times when companies do move their equipment at night so it’s ready to go for the next job in the morning,” said Thompson.

The job site is right next to I-5, and Thompson worries his pricey machinery could be long gone.

“Dismantled maybe, put into a shipping container, who knows where it’s at. We have no idea,” Thompson explains.

Thompson says he’s not hopeful he’ll ever see his excavator again, and is now keeping an extra close eye on his other equipment.

“You have that mistrust, wondering when it’s going happen again,” Thompson said.

Thompson says he’s now looking into a sophisticated GPS system for his machinery.

If you know anything about this theft, contact the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
