PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Police Bureau ramped up its security for Portland’s Pride Week events on Saturday and will add more officers for the Pride Parade Sunday morning.

Ann Marie Garber and her wife Obsidian Haven came to Waterfront Park Saturday to celebrate in a pride march and said there’s always a fear in the back of their heads during public events.

“If you allow that to take over,” Garber said. “You’re not living your life.”

During the march, a group of anti-gay demonstrators protested,, but the group was later surrounded by song and dance.

Haven said she is confident in the officers working during the celebration, saying they are assertive yet respectful.

“I feel very safe and everyone here has been extremely nice,” Garber said.
