PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A rescued male Bald Eagle in the care of the Audubon Society of Portland returned to the wild Sunday.

After almost of year of rehabilitation, the eagle was released at Cathedral Park beneath the Saint Johns Bridge.

The Audubon Society said the young eagle was found on the ground after a fire on Government Island last summer.

Their Wildlife Care Center went out to the island to retrieve the bird and brought him back for treatment.

During the rehabilitation process, the Bald Eagle was successfully able to gain weight. Due to extensive feather damage, the Audubon Society said he had to go through full molt before being released.
