Police: Two men charged in May street racing crash

YAMHILL COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Two men were taken into custody in connection to a suspected street racing crash killed a McMinnville man in May.

Troopers responded to the crash on Highway 99W north of McMinnville on May 4 at approximately 8:50 p.m.

According to Oregon State Police, A 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer was driving north on Highway 99W when it lost control and spun across the paved center median and struck a 2004 Honda Odyssey van nearly head-on.

The driver of the Honda, Claudio Marquez, 43, of McMinnville was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger had serious injuries.

According to Oregon State Police, the driver of a Silver 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer, later identified as Robert Olsen, 22, remained at the scene.

Olsen was taken into custody Saturday, charged with manslaughter in the first degree, assault in the first degree, assault in the fourth degree, and reckless driving.

The driver of the 2010 Mitsubishi, Jeremy Hopper, 24, was arrested Sunday. Hopper was charged with assault in the first degree, assault in the fourth degree, and reckless driving.

Hopper’s passenger, Natasha Fisher, 18, is still in the hospital with serious injuries. Fisher’s family spoke with Fox 12 Saturday about the incident and her recovery.
