BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

Some Cedar Hills residents are relieved to learn a "zombie" house on their block is getting cleaned up.

"It became a crime wave," said Joe Cantrell, who lives several doors down from the house on Southwest 124th Avenue in Beaverton.

Cantrell said it's a family oriented neighborhood, but one house was luring in negative activity.

"The house is full of needles," he said. "The yard was piled with garbage with bike parts. It looked like a bike graveyard."

The Washington County Sheriff's Office reports that since the start of 2014, there have been 61 calls for service at the abandoned house. It added that most of the calls included suspicious circumstances, drug activity and suspicious people.

Cantrell said he had enough after two years and said up to 29 were living inside the home or in tents in the yard. He added that he reached out to a Washington County commissioner, Greg Malinowski, who told Fox 12 that the home was on foreclosure when squatters took over.

Within the past week, Malinowski said there is a new owner who is cleaning up the home and adds he plans to work with the community to develop a long term solution.

"I'm too old, I've stood for too much and met too many brave people to let this happen to my neighborhood," Cantrell said.

After HOA meetings and Malinowski's attention, Cantrell said a neighbor coincidentally worked for a company that purchased foreclosed homes.

"[My husband] was able to get his company to move forward and take ownership," said neighbor Katie McHale. She said professional cleaners have started to clean the interior and exterior of the home since the people were evicted on Wednesday.
