FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

A driver suspected of drinking and speeding hit a traffic island and then a tree in Forest Grove early Saturday morning, according to police.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Pacific Avenue and E Street at 1:37 a.m.

Investigators said the driver of a 2005 Nissan Altima crashed after failing to make the curve onto E Street.

The car rolled before hitting the tree. It took crews more than an hour to rescue the driver, identified as 25-year-old Baron Bryant of Beaverton.

The driver was the only person in the car. Bryant was taken to the hospital and remained in serious condition Monday, according to police.

The investigation is continuing, but police said alcohol and excessive speed are likely factors in the crash.

The Forest Grove Police Department reports that officers responded to four other incidents over the weekend that led to arrests for DUII.

"Drunk driving crashes are on the increase with the warmer weather. The public is strongly encouraged to call 911 to report erratic and possibly impaired driving. If summer plans including consuming alcohol or marijuana, we urge you do so with a designated driver," according to a Forest Grove Police Department statement.
