Portland Farmers Market returns to Pioneer Courthouse Square

Posted: Updated:

Monday was the start of summer, as well as the start of the Pioneer Courthouse Square Farmers Market.

Nearly 30 local farmers and vendors brought locally grown and produced items including berries, greens, flowers, baked goods and hot food downtown for the first week of the season.

Chris Baird of Baird Family Orchards, said it was important it is to support local farmers and venues like this.

“This is critical. This is primarily how we market our fruits,” he explained. “We do markets throughout the entire Portland metro area, as well as some markets out on the coast.”

In addition to the fresh produce, shoppers could enjoy live music at the market.

This is the 25th season for the Portland Farmers Market, which started in a parking lot in Albers Mill in 1992 and has now grown to seven different locations.

The market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, June 20 through Monday, September 26.
