LA CENTER, WA (KPTV) -

For months, it was known simply by the name "Cowlitz Project".

But the Cowlitz Indian Tribe has finally released the official name of their new $500 million facility being built right now in La Center, Washington.

It will be called the Ilani Casino, and the outside look was unveiled Monday. Construction on the casino resort began in September of last year.

Tribal members from Cowlitz and the Mohegan Tribe teamed up to make the project a reality.

"Our ancestors are here today and we do stand on the shoulders of our ancestors to carry this project forward to completion," said Cowlitz Tribal Chairman Bill Iyall. "This is a culmination of 160 years, truly an effort to get our land base and but also to return an economic base for the future, a very prosperous future of our Cowlitz people."

The Ilani casino and resort is expected to open in the spring of 2017.
