The Hillsboro Hops hosted their home opener against the Eugene Emeralds at Ron Tonkin Field Monday night.
Four years after relocating from Yakima, Washington, the Hops are at the top in their league in attendance and near the top in all the minors in merchandise.
The Hillsboro Hops are major in the minors. They have the pennants, rings and a Northwest League Championship banner to prove it.
"It means everything to us honestly."
Mike McMurray is the owner of the short-season Class A Northwest League farm club of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
McMurray said he continues to be blown over by the grand slam of success his franchise has had in the Portland-area.
"I would like to say we had it nailed but no. We had no idea it was going to be this successful."
Craft beer, peanuts, hot dogs, and Barley the Hop. Winning or losing on the field is truly secondary. It's the fan experience, especially for the little ones, that makes a night at the Hops feel big league.
The Emeralds beat the Hops 6-0 on Monday.
Game two is Tuesday at 7 p.m. Game three is Wednesday at 1 p.m.
