CLARK COUNTY, WA (KPTV) -

The Camas-Washougal Fire Department rescued two people from a Clark County lake Monday night after the canoe they were in unexpectedly overturned.

Firefighters we dispatched to Lacamas Lake around 9:37 p.m. after they received reports of two people in the water calling for help.

CWFD spotted a man and a woman without life jackets clinging to an overturned canoe about 100 yards off the east side boat ramp.

Firefighters said there were no rescue boats immediately available.

Two firefighters, Victor Compher and Nick Ober, volunteered to swim out and retrieve the pair.  Both wore life jackets and brought extras for the victims.

The man and woman were warmed inside a waiting ambulance after they were rescued from the water.

There were no reports of injuries.

Firefighters would like to remind the public to use caution when out on the water during the summer months.

They advise locals to always wear floatation devices and to not go out on the water after dark.
