PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Fans headed to Providence Park may want to give themselves extra time to get in the stadium starting this week.

Wednesday’s match between the Chicago Red Stars and the Portland Thorns will be the first event with new enhanced security screening features.

The new procedures include every fan walking through metal detectors and an updated bag policy which prohibits people from bringing in bags larger than 14 inches by 14 inches by 6 inches.

According to a post on the Timbers website, these new regulations puts the team in compliance with Major League Soccer security rules.

Though the metal detectors look like those found at airports, fans will not need to remove their coats or jackets, watches, rings, belts or wallets. Fans will need to place their key rings and cell phones in provided bowls or their bags.

Officials at Providence Park are advising fans to arrive early to reduce delays on entering, and remind fans that there is a discount on concessions for the first hour after gates open.
