SHERWOOD, OR (KPTV) -

A precautionary boil water advisory has been lifted after it was issued for a small area in the southeastern part of Sherwood.

The city announced the advisory Tuesday evening.

Officials said there was no reason to believe the drinking water was contaminated, but Oregon law requires water providers to issue a precautionary boil water advisory if pressure losses are experienced in the water mains.

The city of Sherwood reported a temporary pump outage caused the system to lose pressure Tuesday.

Water samples were collected Tuesday morning and a statement from the city said, "there is no need to be alarmed."

Still, people in the affected area were advised to boil all tap water for drinking, food preparation, washing of food and first aid while the advisory was in place.

At 5 p.m. Wednesday, the city's public works department said the boil water advisory had been canceled. Test results came back negative for any foreign contaminant.
