A woman on probation admitted to using cocaine, but instead of going quietly back to jail she jumped in a nearby river, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Codi Jacobs, 20, reported to the office of offender services at 9 a.m. Wednesday for a drug test as part of her conditions for release.

After admitting to cocaine use, deputies said Jacobs was told she would be taken into custody.

Deputies said she immediately ran out of the Hall of Justice. Two deputies chased after her, but they said she dove into the Cowlitz River just outside the building.

The water is still very cold, however, and Jacobs "quickly decided coming back to the bank was a better idea," according to a sheriff's office statement.

"We are thankful for this decision," the sheriff's office reports.

Jacobs was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail for violating the conditions of her release. Deputies said she is not facing any new charges in connection to the incident.
