TIGARD, OR (KPTV) -

Investigators said a suspect used a sledge hammer to break into a display at a jewelry store in the Washington Square mall then took off with what he could swipe from the case.

Officers with the Tigard Police Department responded to the Ben Bridge Jewelers location in the mall Wednesday afternoon, where witnesses said a black man entered the store store and used the sledge to smash a display case and take three Rolex watches, suffering cuts in the process.

The suspect then fled from the scene on foot into the parking lot of the mall.

Officers from the Tigard, Beaverton, King City and Sherwood police departments, along with deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office and mall security staff, set up a perimeter and brought in a K-9 unit from the Beaverton Police Department to assist with the search. The K-9 team was able to locate the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.

Officers recovered the watches, which were valued at $100,000.

The suspect, 18-year-old Anthony Patterson of Flint, Michigan, was sent to the Washington County Jail and faces charges of aggravated theft, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct.
