PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police searching the area around a southwest Portland home said they found a naked burglary suspect who had been shot by a homeowner.

Portland officers and Multnomah County deputies responded to the 4900 block of Southwest Humphrey Boulevard at around 3:52 p.m. Wednesday.

Police contacted the homeowner who said he shot someone who was breaking into his house.

Officers searched the scene and said they found the suspect naked in a water feature in the backyard of the home.

A Multnomah County Sheriff's Office spokesman said the man who was shot in the abdomen and was taken to the hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.

"For several years, we had problems around Thanksgiving where they were breaking into houses, a fair amount of houses and taking a fair amount, but we thought that was solved," said a neighbor.

FOX 12 spoke to two neighbors in the area who said they saw a strange man in their backyards just minutes before the shooting and called police. Investigators would not comment about those reports.

Investigators said the incident remained under investigation Wednesday night.
